Haaga-Helia University Selects Anygraaf Systems
University to use Neo as part of journalism curriculum
HELSINKI, FINLAND — January 13, 2012 — Haaga-Helia University for Applied Sciences in
Helsinki has chosen Anygraaf's Neo editorial system as a training tool for its students. Teachers will
start using neo this spring and students will begin to see Neo as a part of their curriculum in the fall
semester of 2012.
Haaga-Helia will be using the Neo editorial system which includes planning tools, workflow control,
outside feeds, remote access and archives. The Planner edition management and ad layout system will be
implemented and page planning will be done with Adobe® InDesign® CS5.5. Anygraaf´s language partner, Lingsoft,
will be providing Haaga-Helia with proofreading, spell checking and language planning systems, all of which will
be fully integrated with Neo.
Neo
The Neo publishing system is a framework for the control and management of the editorial enterprise.
One user can have several roles (i.e. editor, editorial assistant, etc.) as well as a desktop environment
associated with each role. Content for all channels can be produced within the same editor, allowing users to
easily combine material into packages for distribution to multiple platforms.
Content planning can begin long before writing and photography begin as all pertinent information
can be entered into Neo, thus providing ample background information for the author. Editorial staff can easily
view and control how each issue is progressing, thereby keeping the publication on time and within budget.
Resource allocation and scheduling are included in the basic Neo package. Long-term planning as well as project
assignment are handled within Neo, adding another level of information available within the system for each project.
"Neo allows us to create a better journalism curriculum and to organize the individual courses
more effectively with each other. The use of Neo will also help to connect different classes to one another by
gathering all material in one, central location. Neo will definitely bring new tools for planning and publishing
material to multiple channels. Neo was natural choice for us, as Anygraaf´s editorial systems are so widely used
in Finland. Neo allows us to go to whole new level and it gives us the possibility to have more of a "real life"
newspaper simulation in our classes", says Anne Leppäjärvi, head of the journalism training program.
The Haaga-Helia training program for journalists takes four years to complete and has 240 students;
last fall, nearly 1300 applications were submitted for 40 open positions. Those who complete the program are usually
able to find good jobs in print and online journalism.
